Frequently Asked Questions

What is active listening?

Active Listening is the skill and gift of listening to others without distraction, judgment, opinion, advice, or diagnosis. It is an act of love and compassion, the offering to hold space for others so that they may feel safe and empowered to share their voice.

What is an intuitive empath?

An intuitive empath is someone who is believed to have the ability to sense and feel the emotions and energy of others, and to combine empathy with instinct and perception. They may also have a heightened sense of intuition and be able to pick up on subtle cues and energy shifts that others may not notice.

What happens during an active listening session?

You lead. In the beginning of your session I will ask about your intentions towards topics and dialogue. During a session I will occasionally ask open ended questions to gain clarity or assist in direction if needed. I will offer personal stories or experiences if it’s relatable, validating or helpful in the conversation - with your permission. I will repeat communication points of our session to ensure you are validated in being heard at the end of every session, with your permission.

Is Active Listening regulated?

Since Active Listening is not a mental health service, it is not currently regulated.

Is this a mental health service?

This is not therapy. I am not a therapist or counselor. This is not a mental health service. I will not offer you advice nor will I suggest any mode of medication, treatment, or diagnosis.

Is my information safe? What happens to secrets and information shared?

I do not take notes, record, or think about our session outside of our time together nor do I discuss our private time together, ever. All information shared with me is released through spiritual ceremony and ritual by myself, privately. I am unable to attach or hold the weight of this work in my mind or body.

Is my listener mandated to report threats of self-harm or harming others?

I am a mandated reporter. If self-harm or threat of harming others is shared, I will take action in reporting. If someone asks for help in any capacity within a life-threatening situation, I will assist in seeking safety for the individual.

What is Trauma Informed Care Training?

Trauma-informed training helps people identify signs of trauma and emphasizes safety in all forms, including physical, psychological, and emotional. The goal is to help survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

The five guiding principles of trauma-informed care are: safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.

Trauma-informed care is a strengths-based approach that aims to understand and respond to the impact of trauma on people's lives. It recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma can play in people's lives. Trauma-informed care responses can help to avoid re-traumatizing individuals.

What if I know my listener as a peer or friend in my community?

If you know me on a personal level or we share within community, we will talk together about your intentions and needs, define boundaries, and decide together if we are a fit. You should not text me or reach out separately from my required process of booking through this website.

Can my child or guests attend my appointment?

No. Children are not allowed to attend a session. If you arrive accompanied by a child or guest, your appointment will be cancelled without a refund.

Why can’t I bring my child or guest to my session?

The purpose of our session together is to create a sealed, safe, and uninterrupted container of space for you to be open and free to speak. I am able to give you all of my attention and provide you with my best support when it’s just the two of us. “Too many cooks in the kitchen” is a great analogy for what comes with more than two doing this type of work together. Privacy is sacrificed as well.

How are people with speech or hearing impairments accommodated?

I am able to accommodate anyone who is differently abled in their speech or hearing by communicating through live written text or on screen, in person or remotely.

What are the options for location and how to access this service?

In person sessions are offered in a completely private rural home office space, in nature per your request, or in a private office suite located downtown in Lawrence, KS.

Remote sessions are available via Zoom or phone call and offer added privacy for those seeking a listener outside of their community.

I need listening services but can’t afford it. Is there a sliding scale?

If you are in need of being heard but do not have the resources to book with me, please reach out via email to discuss options. Additionally, I offer free community care listening services throughout the year and will provide those dates and locations as they are scheduled.

How do I schedule a session?

Scheduling a session with Andiy begins by submitting a form. Forms must be completed in their entirety as they include clear communication and explanation of payment, refunds and cancellation policy.

  • After submitting a form, you will be sent an invoice that can be paid online. Appointment fees must be paid in full in order to schedule a session.

  • Once your payment is submitted and received, Andiy will contact you to schedule your session. Communication regarding your appointment will occur through your preferred communication channel, as indicated on your form.

If - for any reason - you change your mind about scheduling a session and/or wish to cancel an appointment, your payment will be refunded. Cancellations must be made 24 hours or more in advance. See Cancellation Policy for details.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made less than 24 hours notice will result in the forfeiture of payment and will be ineligible for a refund. Cancellations must be made by email only. All communication regarding your appointment must be made by email. Please do not send messages by text or through social media messaging.

Arriving more than 10 minutes late to your appointment will result in cancellation of your scheduled appointment and forfeiture of payment. Please respect our time together and allow for appropriate travel time. Your appointment begins at your scheduled time and will not continue past the hour dedicated to you. Due to appointments scheduled before/after yours, late arrivals cannot be accommodated as other people are impacted. Please consider the disruption in energy created by running late or arriving last minute. To best support your own success, consider arriving 10 minutes early and using that time to center yourself before our meeting.

This is a private session between the person booking the appointment and Andiy only. Do not bring a guest. Under no circumstance can a child be in accompaniment. Failure to respect this boundary will result in forfeiture of payment and appointment time.
